On 12th March 2023, the Women’s Marathon 5KM fun run commenced at 6.00 AM at the Gandhi Museum (Open Ground) and left an indelible mark on everyone involved. The lively Zumba dance by “Tempest Dance Academy” set the tone for the marathon, and all participants relished it.

The event was not just any ordinary marathon. It was a marathon for a cause organized by the Aishwaryam Trust on the occasion of International Women’s Day, aimed at promoting fitness and raising awareness about women’s health. By participating in this marathon, women had the opportunity to challenge themselves physically while contributing to a noble cause to support elderly people in need.

The marathon started from Gandhi Museum and passed through Raja Muthiah Mandram, Race Course Grounds, Thamari Thotti, and Pudur. The event was full of inspiring stories of perseverance and determination, which touched the participants’ hearts and motivated them to keep going.

Dr. Bala, Chairman of Aishwaryam Trust, and the chief guest at the event encouraged physically challenged women to participate and complete the run. His kind gesture motivated the participants to push themselves beyond their limits.

Another heartwarming moment was when a mother completed the race while holding her baby, setting an inspiring example of the grit and determination that characterizes motherhood. The event was made even more special by a young girl aged around five who completed the race, proving that age is just a number when it comes to achieving one’s goals.

The event was graced by esteemed chief guests, including Hon’ble Justice S. Srimathy, Judge at Madras High Court, Dr. A. Rathinavel, Dean of Madurai Medical College, Thiru S. Arumugasamy, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Madurai City, and Mrs. Roopa Vasudevan, international para-athlete and Manager at Bank of Maharashtra, Madurai. Their presence and encouragement were a source of motivation for all the participants.

Mr. Jegan, a motivational speaker and inspirational figure, played a crucial role in encouraging and inspiring the participants. His words of wisdom and positivity had a profound impact on the participants, motivating them to push past their limits and achieve their goals.

The top three participants in all categories received gold coins and certificates, while all participants received a T-shirt, certificate, and medal. The event’s success was made possible by the support of the Traffic Police and the Police department, who provided permission and cleared the traffic to ensure the participants’ safety. PT volunteers also played a crucial role in ensuring the girls’ safety and accompanied them throughout the racecourse, providing support and encouragement until the end.

The organizers made sure that the participants were comfortable, with refreshments, medical kits, and ambulances stationed throughout the course. The sponsors, volunteers, schools, colleges, and supporters generously supported the event and made it possible.

For many participants, the marathon was not just a physical challenge but a symbolic one as well. It represented a journey towards greater self-belief and empowerment, breaking the barriers that held them back in the past. As the participants crossed the finish line, they felt a sense of pride and accomplishment, knowing that they had pushed themselves beyond their limits and achieved something great.
